As part of an ongoing appeal to raise funds for the Salford Birthing Centre, Alan Hall, Project Manager at Urban Vision, cycled the several hundred mile distance from London to Paris to raise money for the campaign.
The Salford Birthing Centre appeal aims to raise money for women with low risk pregnancies so that they can continue to have the choice of giving birth in the city and keep babies born in Salford.
The idea for the bike ride originated from a couple of Alan’s friends in London who had completed it in previous years. Alan realised that completing the bike ride might be an opportunity for a challenge and at the same time raise money for a good cause.
Alan said, “We managed to complete the journey in good time, the hardest part being getting out of central London, but once we got to France we managed to catch good weather and we took our own route through sleepy villages to stock up on water and pastries. We were lucky too that in previous years there had been various punctures and mechanical issues, however we didn’t have a single one!’
As it currently stands, Alan’s Just Giving page is up to £510. As Urban Vision is part of Capita Plc , one way in which Capita supports employees who take part in charitable activities is by providing additional funding for the charity, up to a pre-determined limit. We look forward to taking part in more initiatives to raise money for good causes in Salford throughout the rest of the year.
