Our highway engineers completed the successful design and implementation of two major junction improvements on Bury New Road. The scheme was requested by local ward councillors as a matter of priority and has since received praise from residents in the area.
- An upgrade to signalised junctions, linking new and existing junctions together to increase capacity for vehicles.
- New crossing points introduced for pedestrians as well as enhancing the existing points in place.
- Improved signal timings to increase manoeuvrability around the junction for all.
The engineering team provided junction realignment works to introduce pedestrian crossing facilities and improve their safety, footway and carriageway resurfacing works, upgraded signalling infrastructure to improve timings and traffic flows and improvements were made to the bus stop and pedestrian guard railing, helping to promote safety as paramount for pedestrians.
Works began back in September 2018 and were completed in February 2019, since receiving praise from local residents.

“I just want to pass on how amazing all the workers are. They’re working under such difficult circumstances, with hundreds of children going to and from the schools across the road, plus scores of cars from the other schools nearby, plus pedestrians and traffic to the health centre. They don’t get angry with individuals and answer questions patiently, putting up with people and cars not following instructions. It’s incredible and awes me!”
Well done to our highway engineers for this successful scheme on Bury New Road!
