CCTV Control Rooms
The Home Secretary was given a demonstration of the purpose-built central control room in action, where images are monitored around the clock. Operators now have a direct connection to the police radio system.
Following recognition of the inadequacies of previous control rooms, a successful case was put forward for the provision of a new control room in Salford to allow for the amalgamation of security operation elements and to provide dedicated links to GMP communications, as part of the Council s drive against crime.
Salford City Council's network is now one of the most advanced in the country with its 160 cameras upgraded to new digital technology, capable of capturing high definition pictures. Salford is also one of the first authorities in the country to use new multi-directional cameras, capable of seeing 360 degrees at any one time and tracking criminals automatically; and Urban Vision has been and continues to be part of this significant project.
As part of the overall delivery, Urban Vision designed, procured and managed the building construction works to provide the control room with the ability to enable electronics installations to take place. From this practical stance, Urban Vision are now part of the managerial , operational and service harmonisation team and are delivering operational efficiencies.
The new system has the ability to link up with the police's own control room, so officersthere can view "live" pictures from the council's network. Now, officers who need CCTV footage for evidence will be able to have better quality images from electronic files, rather than on video or DVD, and it will be much quicker for operators to access the images they need. This set up also allows the control room to act as central control for community schemes; such as Pubwatch, Shopwatch and the Quaywatch moblile patrol and response service. This integrated approach will assist in fighting crime and fear of crime throughout the city.
