Urban Vision Works With Local School Children On Design Project

Students from the Albion High School were invited to Urban Vision's offices this week to take part in a lunchtime workshop to discuss the design of the Pendleton Subways. They had previously won an award for their ideas as part of a National Programme organised by Catch 22.

Through carrying out surveys with the local people regarding problems pedestrians face when using subways, the students highlighted the current issues and used the data to formulate ideas for improvements.

Engineers from Urban Vision were pleased to be able to incorporate many of their ideas into new designs to improve the facilities.

Following a visit and presentation by the pupils at the Albion High School in December, the workshop today was organised to further involve the students at the feasibility design stage and to explain some of the technical issues. Following the workshop and lunch, a brief tour of the offices took place.

Following a final presentation to the local Community Committee in March it is proposed to complete the detailed design work and arrange for the construction phase.

Max Griffiths, Structures Manager from Urban Vision says;

 “The Team in the Engineering Design Section of Urban Vision enjoyed working with the pupils from Albion High School.  As regular users of the subways, the students were able to express clear ideas which provided a fresh opinion on the long standing design and maintenance issues associated with pedestrian subways”
